hier sind die neuesten Nachrichten aus Japan zum Thema Covid-19.
Gestern gab es 31 neue bestätigte Infektionen mit Covid-19. Acht Personen sind verstorben. Damit stiegen die Gesamtopferzahlen auf 16.385 Infizierte (17.097*) und 771 (784*) Verstorbene. In Tokio gab es gestern 5 Neuinfektionen. (MHLW: Link; Präf. Tokio: Link)

Die Regierung Abe wird voraussichtlich morgen den nationalen Notstand in der Kansai-Region (Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto) aufheben. Hokkaido und die Hauptstadtregion haben bisher noch nicht die Anforderungen für eine Aufhebung des Notstandes erfüllt. (Yomiuri Shimbun, 20. Mai 2020)
Der japanische Außenminister Motegi hat gestern das Blaubuch zur Außenpolitik 2020 vorgestellt. Dies ist insofern für die Coronakrise relevant, als dass Japan nun die Teilnahme Taiwans － das nun als „äußerst wichtiger Partner“ 極めて重要なパートナー (kiwamete jūyō-na pātonā) bezeichet wird － als Beobachter in der WHA (der Generalversammlung der WHO) unterstützt. Japan schließt sich damit der Politik der Vereinigten Staaten an, die die einzigen zwei souveränen Staaten ohne offizielle diplomatische Beziehungen zu Taiwan sind, die Taiwans Forderung nach Teilnahme an der WHA unterstützen. Im europäischen Parlament haben kürzlich 102 Mitglieder die europäischen Gesundheitsminister aufgefordert, Taiwans Teilnahme ebenfalls zu unterstützen. Deutschland hat zu der Frage eine ambivalente Position eingenommen, bei der die deutsche Auslandsvertretung in Taiwan, das Deutsche Institut Taipei, auf seiner Facebook-Seite erklärt hat, dass Deutschland eine Teilnahme Taiwans an der WHA unterstützen würde, sich aber bisher kein Regierungsmitglied dazu geäußert hat. Eine nützliche Seite der Präfektur Tokio, in der Informationen rund um Covid-19 gesammelt werden, u.a. die Zahl der durchgeführten Tests: https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/.
Eine Internetseite, die die Auslastung an ICU-Betten in ganz Japan wiedergibt. https://www.stopcovid19.jp/. Hierbei handelt es sich scheinbar um eine nicht-staatliche Initiative. Wie ersichtlich wird, sind die Krankenhäuser in den Präfekturen Tokio, Kanagawa, Gifu, Kyoto und Fukuoka derzeit deutlich überlastet. Allerdings sind zumindest die neuen ICU-Betten, die laut der Gouverneurin von Tokio seit Anfang der Krise in Tokio neu eingerichtet wurden, nicht mit einberechnet.
Auf dieser von der japanischen Regierung betriebenen Internetseite wird die Zahl der Menschen, dich sich in den wichtigsten Bahnhöfen Tokios und Japans aufhalten oder ein- und aussteigen gezählt. Link (auf Japanisch)

Yesterday there were 31 new confirmed infections with Covid-19. Eight people have died. This increased the total number of victims to 16,385 infected (17,097 *) and 771 (784 *) deceased. There were 5 new infections in Tokyo yesterday. (MHLW: Link; Pref. Tokyo: Link)

The Abe government is expected to lift the national emergency in the Kansai region (Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto) tomorrow. Hokkaido and the capital region have not yet met the requirements for the lift of the emergency. (Yomiuri Shimbun, May 20, 2020)
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi presented the Blue Book on Foreign Policy 2020 yesterday. This is relevant to the corona crisis in that Japan is now supporting Taiwan's participation － which is now described as an “extremely important partner” 極めて重要なパートナー (kiwamete jūyō-na pātonā) － as an observer in the WHA (the General Assembly of the WHO). Japan thereby joins the United States, which are the only two sovereign states without official diplomatic relations with Taiwan that support Taiwan's call for participation in the WHA. In the European Parliament, 102 members recently asked European health ministers to support Taiwan's participation. Germany has taken an ambivalent position on the issue, in which the German diplomatic mission in Taiwan, the German Institute Taipei, said on its Facebook page that Germany would support Taiwan's participation in the WHA. A useful web-page by Tokyo Prefecture that collects information related to Covid-19, including the number of tests performed: https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/.
A website that shows the utilization of ICU beds across Japan. https://www.stopcovid19.jp/. This is apparently a non-governmental initiative. As can be seen, the hospitals in the prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa, Gifu, Kyoto, and Fukuoka are currently significantly overloaded. However, at least the new ICU beds, which, according to the governor of Tokyo, have been set up in Tokyo since the beginning of the crisis, are not included.
This website, operated by the Japanese government, counts the number of people staying, boarding or disembarking in main train stations of Tokyo and Japan. As you can see, a decline of 60 to 80 percent is observed in almost all train stations. Link (in Japanese)
I would still like to draw your attention to the Corona bot. If you are a foreigner in Japan and show corona symptoms or are just looking for information, this chatbot could be helpful for you. It asks you about symptoms of illness and then recommends a hotline you can contact for advice or diagnosis. It is available free of charge in Japanese, English, German, and Mandarin via Amazon Alexa and Line. More information here under this link. This is no paid advertising. I just found the idea super-helpful and like to spread it, because in the end, it might actually save lives or at least nerves.
